APPLICATION FEE

A $10 non-refundable application fee is required to submit an application to the MAD House residency. This fee covers the administrative costs associated with reviewing applications and is separate from any residency deposit or fees.

1. RESIDENCY CONFIRMATION

Residency places are confirmed once the required deposit has been received. Your place and dates are not secured until payment has been received.

2. DEPOSITS & PAYMENTS

Residency deposits are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend your residency on the confirmed dates, any deposit or residency fees already paid will not be refunded.

The remaining balance must be paid by the deadline outlined in your acceptance email. Failure to complete payment by the deadline may result in your residency place being forfeited.

3. CHANGING RESIDENCY DATES

If you need to change your residency dates after your place has been confirmed, we will do our best to accommodate the request, subject to availability.

Date changes are only possible if there is another available residency period that works with your original application and booking. Changing dates is not guaranteed and may not be possible once travel arrangements have been made.

If we are unable to accommodate your requested change, your original deposit remains non-refundable.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers cancellation, changes, illness, travel disruption, and other unexpected circumstances.

4. GUESTS, FRIENDS & FAMILY

MAD House is intended to be a focused creative residency for a small group of residents. Friends, family members, partners, or collaborators may visit during your stay, but overnight guests must be approved in advance.

Overnight guests are subject to an additional fee of €25 per night and may stay for a maximum of three consecutive nights.

A spouse, partner, or collaborator staying may be accommodated for an additional impact fee, subject to availability and prior approval.

5. RESIDENCY FEES

The residency fee is charged per person and covers accommodation at MAD House, access to your designated workspace, and the amenities provided as part of the residency.

MAD House is a creative home and working residency rather than a fabrication studio. Residents have access to a dedicated workspace and are welcome to develop their own creative projects during their stay. We may also connect residents with local makers, studios, suppliers, or other resources in Porto when appropriate, but access to external facilities is not included in the residency fee.

Residents are responsible for their own travel to and from Porto, materials, external studio or fabrication costs, meals, and other personal expenses unless otherwise stated.

6. THE RESIDENCY EXPERIENCE

MAD House intentionally hosts a small group of 2–4 residents at a time. Residents are selected with consideration for the overall group and the creative environment we are building.

The residency is designed to give artists and designers time and space to live, work, connect, and develop their creative practice in Porto. Residents are expected to respect the shared home, workspace, other residents, and the surrounding community.

By accepting a residency place, you agree to follow the house guidelines provided before your arrival.
